Dark Cherry BBQ Sauce (nightshade-free)
This dark cherry BBQ sauce is a nightshade-free alternative to the typical tomato-based BBQ sauce. The flavors can easily be adjusted to your preferences by adding vinegar, molasses, or mustard to taste. This is fabulous with grilled fruit & veggie kabobs, or with any cut of pork, beef, or chicken you feel like barbecuing.
Ingredients
dark cherries, fresh or frozen | 2 cups | |
apple cider vinegar | 2 tbsp | |
coconut aminos | 1 tbsp | |
blackstrap molasses | 1 tbsp | |
minced dried onion (or 1 tsp onion powder) | 1 tbsp | |
mustard | ½ tsp | |
garlic | 1 clove | |
ginger concentrate (*see recipe notes) | ½ tsp | |
sea salt | 2 pinches | |
liquid smoke, optional | 5 drops | |
maple syrup, optional | 1 tbsp |
Directions:
- Blend ingredients together in a high-speed blender.
- Add more vinegar, molasses, or mustard to taste.
- Enjoy this BBQ sauce raw or simmer it down on the stovetop.

- SCD: omit blackstrap molasses and liquid smoke.

New to nightshade free diet. Didn’t realize both mustards I have contain paprika(my son eats it not me) so be cautious if using mustard to read the ingredients first
